FAQs

  • You won’t build a house or extension without detailed plans… the same goes for a garden.

You need a designer skilled in spacial visualisation, plant knowledge, creativity and construction detailing.

It’s great to get inspiration from the Chelsea Flower Show or social media. But don’t just pick a design that looks good from a brochure. It may not work for you… every garden is unique and I can help you find yours.

  • As soon as you have headspace and a rough budget.

The initial stage is information gathering and can take time, depending on the complexity of the site/project. No worries, I will guide you through this.

The most successful projects always start well. This means planning in advance, collaborative discussions, realistic goals and trust in the client/designer relationship.

  • Yes, if you want the garden built.

Without the construction specs, it is impossible to get a competitive quote from landscapers. The design would also be open to interpretation by the contractor, and will not end up being built as we intended.

As an independent designer, I don’t make money from the build stage. My clients know that my drawings and specifications give them the confidence that their financial investment is well spent.

  • I am a property solicitor & landscape consultant, so you get the best of both worlds.

I can deal with planning matters for gardens which I have designed or have been commissioned to design.

This includes listed building consent, discharge of planning conditions, conservation area approval, Tree Preservation Orders, hedgerow management & habitat creation for biodiversity.

  • Absolutely!

Not everyone will want or be ready for their entire garden to be built straight away.

However, you’ll need professional advice to phase the project correctly to avoid wasting time & money in the long run (eg : relocating nearly-established trees for heavy machinery access). I can help you spot potential problems before they arise.

  • ‘Reduce, Re-use & Recycle’… we love this!

Designs are considered so that material cuts and wastage are minimised. This reduces the quantities (and cost) of materials sent for landfill/recycling.

I aim to utilise local manufactures and fabricators for products and materials. I specify materials manufactured in the UK where possible, and use local landscape contractors.
